Our Story
Launched in 2009, Recaps started as Anneka’s personal quest for merging her love of creativity, design, and sustainability with her active life of rock climbing, skiing, and paragliding. Her journey didn’t follow a traditional path. After a time studying printmaking, Anneka chose hands-on exploration instead—traveling the world, chasing adventure, and eventually earning a certificate in sustainable design. These experiences became the foundation of Recaps: creative, unconventional, and rooted in environmental responsibility.
Where It All Started
The spark for Recaps came from a single handmade hat—a cadet-style piece crafted from a pair of her worn Carhartts. What began as a personal project quickly turned into something bigger as people began requesting custom hats made from their own clothing. The seed for the business was planted.
With determination and a willingness to step off the beaten path, Anneka traveled to Thailand to produce her first batch in a hole-in-the-wall cut and sew shop. She returned with a run of 300 hats made all of old clothes, enough to start building the brand from the ground up with grit and creativity.
Craft Meets Sustainability
Recaps gained recognition for its signature mini-brim trucker hats, originally made from old retired clothing. Anneka developed a distinctive process for custom branding that’s still central to the brand today: hand-carving lino blocks, printing designs onto reclaimed fabrics, creating one-of-a-kind prints.
As demand grew, Recaps evolved—partnering with skilled manufacturers who share the brand’s commitment to 100% recycled materials, while preserving its handcrafted essence.
Today
Now based in Cashmere, Washington, Recaps continues to thrive with a small, passionate team. Combining modern tools like a CNC machine and a Direct transfer printer with traditional techniques like hand-carved lino block printing creates the opportunity for custom and creative branding, with every piece reflecting the brand’s core values: sustainability, individuality, and adventure.
